Maximilian Günther

Maximilian dominated the racetracks from a young age. He became vice champion in Formula BMW and scored numerous victories and podium finishes in the ADAC Formel Masters which resulted in two runner up finishes in the Championship. In addition he was an important part of Germany’s most notable junior program, the Deutsche Post Speed Academy, which he won twice.
With the support of Mercedes-Benz, Maximilian entered the world’s most competitive junior formula series in 2015 and his victory at the Norisring proved that he was already an impressive talent in his rookie year in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Four race wins and the runner up position in the overall standings of 2016 confirmed his continuing development. In 2017 Maximilian was in a close championship battle, resulting in third overall place and victory at the prestigious Grand Prix de Pau. With 5 wins, 16 podium appearances and 27 top ten finishes, Günther made a significant contribution to Prema winning the team championship. Since 2016 Maximilian was working as the simulator and development driver of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team. Here he was an essential part in the development and setup work of the two world championship winning cars, the W07 and W08.
In 2018 he started in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, the direct substructure of the Formula 1. At the opening round in Bahrain he finished second and won the British GP at Silverstone halfway through the season. Parallel to that Maximilian acted as the test- and reserve driver of the Dragon Formula E Team of Jay Penske and absolved most of the testing work of the new Gen2 Penske EV-3.
